1. Check Your Box and Device
Start by inspecting your Trézor packaging. It should arrive sealed and undamaged. Authentic boxes contain tamper-evident holograms and official branding.
- Do not use if seals are broken or missing.
- Ensure all accessories are included: device, USB cable, recovery sheets, and manuals.
2. Visit the Official Start Page
Go to trezor.io/start in your web browser. Verify the URL carefully to ensure you’re on the legitimate website before proceeding.
3. Connect and Initialize Your Device
Use the provided cable to connect your Trézor to a trusted computer. Follow on-screen instructions to initialize your new wallet.
- Choose Create new wallet for first-time setup.
- Set a secure PIN directly on the device screen.
The PIN prevents unauthorized access to your Trézor even if it’s lost or stolen.
4. Write Down Your Recovery Phrase
Your recovery phrase (also called a seed) is a series of 12–24 words displayed on the device. This is the only way to recover your wallet if your device is lost or damaged.
- Write it down clearly on paper, not digitally.
- Keep it offline and away from moisture, heat, or cameras.
- Consider storing it in a fireproof or metal backup kit.
5. Update Firmware
Once initialized, check for firmware updates via the Trézor Suite or web app. Updates include security patches and new features.
- Only install updates through the official interface.
- Confirm firmware signatures on-screen.
6. Create Your Wallet Accounts
After setup, you can create accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other supported cryptocurrencies. All private keys remain safely inside your Trézor device.
7. Staying Safe
- Never reveal or type your recovery phrase anywhere online.
- Bookmark trezor.io and use only that site for updates or support.
- Be cautious of phishing emails and fake wallet software.
- Keep your device’s firmware and app up to date.
8. Troubleshooting & Help
If your computer doesn’t recognize the device, try:
- Switching USB ports or using a different cable.
- Restarting the Trézor Suite app.
- Rebooting your computer.
